Roman farmers grew grains, olives, and grapes. Olive oil and wine are a two of the most important products. Cop production was low output and required a lot of slaves to maintain. The Romans made sacrifices to these gods, and the sacrifices included prayer to be effective. However, prayer on its own had a lot of power. Roman priest offered loud public prayers for the community, but public religious rituals had to be done by specialist. The religious rituals had to be perfect or it would have to be started over. Roman people believed in daily offerings to household deities. Some of these offerings would include wheat and grain-garlands, grapes, honey cakes, honey combs, wine, incense, and food scraps. Animal sacrifice is the best offering there is. They usually offered animals like cattle, sheep, and pigs. “Sacrifice sought the harmonization of the earthy and divine, so the victim must seem willing to offer its own life on behalf of the community; it must remain calm and be quickly and cleanly dispatched” (http://en.wikipedia.org).
