In the short story “Ice Break” by Astrid Blodgett, do a young girl experience a horrible episode.
The short story is about a family of 5. The family consist of the dad, mom and three smaller daughters. Its seems like at the start the everything is normal. That they are all in good relationship with each other. But we quickly getting the sense of that something is out of place. We have the trip where they are out on the ice and incident this part is present. The other part is the flashbacks to back home before they went out on the trip. At first it can be a bit confusing but the longer we come in the short story does it become easier to read. At first can it be difficult to find the meaning of the story. We a starting to get a view of that the parents mirage is on the wrong path. We don’t know that the trip is focus of the story. But when we are getting told that they were hitting water are we starting to get a sense of that something bad is going to happen. We are quickly getting the sense of that the trip and incident is now the main point of the story. The crash itself is very well described. But in the middle of it all are we getting another flashback and we are now back home with the family. We quickly jump back to the incident. As I mentioned before is the crash is very well described. The thing called love isn’t the first thing we think about when we read the text. But I think its important theme in this text. We see it by the way the character’s act. The first time we meet love is when we are getting told that each parent has a day with their children, where they spent their time on them. They want to create a better relationship between them and their kids. We are also seeing that the parents keep trying to cover their own problems for their children. They don’t want to trouble their kids more than necessary. We also see the mothers love for her children, when she realizes that Janie have died. She is of course very sad over the loss. But she is trying to hide it for her children. She wants to show them that she is strong but the two daughters know that their mother is very sad. We are also seeing that the father has a strong love for his daughters. We see it when he sacrifices his own life for his daughters. He attempts to say both his daughters but sadly only Dawn
