The Solar System: The Big Bang Theory

The big bang theory is often misinterpreted for what some may describe as the origin of the universe. However, this misconception actually informs us on how our universe was created in one single explosion, which is said to have happened approximately fourteen billion years ago.8 Everything that makes up who we are and what surrounds us started then, as an infinitely small volume that continued to expand in a ridiculously fast rate, where within a matter of minutes the universe became the size of our solar system. First off, the big bang theory is the leading explanation of what happened during and after the moment of the creation of our universe. This theory was born off of the observation that other galaxies are continuously moving away from our own at great speed, in all directions, as if they are being propelled by an “ancient explosive force” called the red shift. These studies were also determined with the help of Christian Doppler’s reasoning (the Doppler Effect). The origin of the big bang theory can actually be dated back to 1929. This was the year that scientist Edwin Hubble and his assistant found out that the universe was expanding. These are some of the criticisms on the big bang theory. The big bang theory is said to violate the first law of thermodynamics or the law of conservation of energy. This says that energy or matter can not be created or destroyed. As we know, the big bang theory is said to state the transformation of our universe, not its origin. There are scientists who believe that the first law of thermodynamics should not even have to be applied to the big bang.11 Another critique, would be the violation of entropy: the degree of disorder or randomness in a system.11 This would be in relation to the formation of the stars and the galaxies. However, due to pictures we now have of the universe in it’s infancy, we can see that it is indeed following entropy. Another criticism would be that it is violating the law that nothing can travel faster than the speed of light.
