As soon as they arrived, the boys had many questions to ask Lewis, which led him to begin telling the story of his childhood and how it allowed him to become the person he was then. The story then flips back and forth from past to present with Lewis narrating his past to the boys and then bringing it back to the present day for the boys to ask more questions. Furthermore, this story is applicable to anyone, at any age, who might need a little push in the right direction, for that’s what this story can do. It’s not necessarily tailored for any age, and I believe this is why it has the ability to impact just about anyone who is willing to try and understand the message. After all, Lewis was able to take racism, a very fragile topic, and allow it to be a little more light-hearted by narrating the story himself, and even telling the story about how he grew up on a farm with the chickens and the struggles he was faced with.
