Equality is generally a good thing; however, in a world inhabited with an immense population and low resources, one wonders how these resources can be distributed equally among everyone. The reality of the situation is that they can't. Hobbes comes to the conclusion that equality leads to competition among humans. If two people are equal in every aspect and both want a piece of cherry pie, but there is only one piece, how do we determine who gets the piece? People need to compete with each other in order to survive. This concept is known as “survival of the fittest” and it can be seen in every aspect of society. It is our very nature to want to live, regardless of how we ensure that we do so. When trying to survive, we don't think of anyone else besides ourselves.
