To Kill A Mockingbird Jem's Transformation

In the novel, “To KIll a Mockingbird,” by Harper Lee many characters changed and evolved throughout the book. Jem has evolved the most throughout the book because he is growing up and becoming more like his dad. One of jem's for major events that made him become more mature was reading with Mrs. Dubose, The school play, and the court case.

First of all, one of jem's first events that shows he is going into adulthood was reading to Mrs. Dubose. Atticus to Jem that,“people are entitled to full respect to their opinions …. But she is old and ill .You can hold her responsible for what she says and does”(139-140). Jem destroys Miss Dubose's Camellias, he pays his consequence for his actions by reading to Miss Dubose. After Miss Dubose dies is when Jem realizes that she was trying to give up her addiction to morphine. From reading to Miss Dubose Jem learns courage, patience, and tolerance of unusual behavior of others. For example, when Jem tells scout not to antagonize aunt Alexandra because Atticus has a lot on his mind. In conclusion, Jem learns how to be more mature because of Miss Dubose: jem learns to be more

“The feeling grew until the atmosphere in the courtroom was exactly the same as a cold February morning, when the mockingbirds were still”(281). Many people think that scout has evolved because of after the court case by becoming more aware that not everyone acts with a good intention and becomes more exposed to racism, bigotry, and violence. Into a more accurate perspective on proper behavior about her community. The trial teaches scout to accept one's duties to do the right thing regardless of the income . In conclusion, scout has evolved because she has learned that even though Atticus didn't win, he had evidence but that racism will take over she learns how her community treats racism and that Atticus did the right
