Driverless Cars As the years go by, technology is becomes more advanced. Phones, computers, and tablets are getting more efficient. We have finally made our way to cars. Soon, humans won’t have to drive themselves; the cars will drive for them. It seems like something out of a science fiction novel, but driverless cars will soon be a reality. Like many new things, driverless cars come with pros and cons. Driverless cars should not be allowed on roads because they are too expensive, aren’t developed enough, and have a lot of legal issues. Driverless cars will have all kinds of new technology and operating systems. This type of technology will be very expensive. Not many people would be able to afford a driverless car. Simulations have shown that the cars work efficiently on the road. Many arguments could be made against this. For example, in every test with the cars, they “made traffic congestion worse than it would have been in a baseline scenario with people behind every wheel” (Borroz 2). Traffic is hated by anyone who has ever been in any kind of automobile. Big cities that experience tons of traffic, such as Miami or Los Angeles, will have to suffer through even more. These simulations also “involved normal cars and driverless cars. There were no trucks, buses or pedestrians.” (Borroz 2). The technology has only been tested for one kind of occasion. Anything can happen on the road and, for everyone’ safety, must be prepared. While driverless cars seem like a good idea, they should not be allowed on roads. Their price range is insane, the technology isn’t developed enough, and there are too many legal issues involved. Everyone seems to be in a rush for these cars to be released, but it just isn’t the right time. Maybe if they are given more care, we’ll be able to seen them in the future.
