The word syndrome was added to incorporate all the symptoms that would accompany this disease. Self- care has become the new way to handle fibromyalgia. Many men and women have chosen use of over the counter medicines (Ibuprofen and Aleve) instead of prescriptions. Reducing stress has been used to assist in relieving the pain of fibromyalgia. Since stress can be a trigger of this condition, developing a stress management plan can benefit a person suffering with FM. Getting enough sleep and exercising regularly can often decrease symptoms. Maintaining a healthy lifestyle by eating more fruits and vegetables and limiting caffeine and alcohol can also be used to help have a more balanced and pain free life.

Fibromyalgia is not an invisible condition. It is a century old mystery. Although we cannot physically see signs of FM those who suffer from it can describe in detail the pain they are in. Fibromyalgia effects all parts of life. Some people might even think they have mental issues because it seems that no one will believe them about the constant pain. Great strides have been made to further understand this condition. In the years to come scientist hope to have a better understanding of fibromyalgia and have a better way of treating
