As said in the intro, reservations have been established since 1851, and were used to protect the local indians. As Junior said, “If the government wants to hide somebody, there’s probably no place more isolated than my reservation, which is located approximately one million miles north of Important and two billion miles west of Happy.” (Alexie 30) This quote expresses two things, the location in where Junior and the Reservation was set up is completely in the middle of nowhere, and that no one would ever want to live in or near a reservation. But Junior knows that if he does not end up doing something about his life, he may end up being a “ordinary” indian and end up like his dad, drunk and poor. Junior believes that the government does not care one bit about the indians, that's why he says “which is located approximately one million miles north of Important and two billion miles west of Happy.” expressing that the government cares more about others and gives the indians the land nobody
