In the era of our parents, they never thought that technology would come this far so fast. In the late 60’s after the first successful moon landing mission took place, people believed that the human race would soon be living on mars and technology would run our daily lives. Although after over 45 years later, mankind has not come as far as we had hoped technology has taken a big leap. In 2016, over 1 billion people will have used or owned a phone/tablet and 221 million in just North America (3). Assuming that these people use their cellular devices once a day or more, you can already tell that’s a lot of screen time. In the workplace, social media has taken a bigger effect than some had hoped, but for some it can be beneficial and depending on the job, social media can create a huge impact on people’s lives.

Every single person suffers from stress in either their daily, weekly, or monthly lives. Social media has proven to be a great stress reliever for many people. Surfing through feeds or taking their mind off work allows them to balance their work more evenly. If an employee is stressed, their chances of working productively is significantly lower. So while many believe that social media causes productivity to decrease in the workplace, it actually creates an opposite effect. (1) The next big pro social media has to it is it’s ability to represent their brand or company. In special cases like professional sports, where the workplace is a field or a court, social media allows the worker to reach out to other people to show off their thoughts or ideas.
