Some people might say that only focusing on strengths will also hurt students by making them less well rounded which is true, but the system can still create well-rounded students by helping them with their weakness, but not dwelling on them. Education at the high school level should be tailored towards the individual's strengths, preparing them for a career path of choice. Homework is another prime example of how unproductive school is. My Declaration of Independence I am here today to announce my frustration with the amount of homework given on any day. The problem with all of the homework is that some people have other things to do, and may not have time to complete all of the given homework. I think it’s safe to say that the amount of homework is just a bit too much, and not completing all of it seriously can bring down some grades for people. People do not deserve to have homework in every class, almost every day.…

I teach 8th grade math with 120 students. I have one inclusion class with a special education teacher. One of my major issues I have with my students is that at least 25% of them will not turn in homework. This causes an issue with the students not mastering the standard I’m teaching at that time; therefore, when I move on, which I have to because of time constraints, they are falling behind. There are many students who come to me in 8th grade who are not prepared, especially with the implementation of common core standards.…

There are various effective arguments I would make to support students having homework by their teachers. The first argument I would make is that homework helps students to better retain the lessons they’ve learned during the school day. Students need a lot of exercises to do to retain what they learn everyday in school. Since class time isn’t enough to provide a lot of exercises on one subject, homework is the best way to exercise what’s been learned in class. If no homework is given to students on a subject that’s been discussed in class, it’s more likely for them to forget the subject the next day.…
