Teaching third graders algebra is utterly ridiculous when the teachers are not even allowed to teach and get students to master basics in math and reading. The teachers are given rules on what they must teach and that list is so long that the teachers are not allowed to spend enough time on basics to build a more solid foundation to build on. When as an adult does the average person use algebra? However, everyone uses simple math every single day in paying bills, figuring how much money you have, or how much time until you have to be somewhere. All those things…

My experience to English 1101 was totally different from my high school English class, but it was also a good learning experience. Making the transition from high school was a lot different because of the fact that college you only have the class for a semester and in high school you have the same teacher all year. I learned a few things last year in English 1101 that I didn't know. I learned how to do a film analysis on the movie The Village and how the colors from the movie had a meaning behind them. We also learned from the movie how the position of the camera means something.…

There’s a Chinese Proverb that says, “Failure is not falling down, but refusing to get back up again.” I really wish I heard that quote when I thought I was a failure, but really was just being lazy. In Carol Dweck’s article “Brainology” a study is conducted on seventh grade students and their mindsets. Their mindsets were measured and studied for two years. Dweck studied the difference between the fixed mindset and the growth mindset students and how they did in school.…

Oh how I was so wrong. I struggled so horribly in that class, I thought it would never end. I dreaded each day to go there, because I knew I would have to learn something new, and then in turn be left alone for the homework and flounder. I would have a few spurts where I could do things well in class and that made me feel good, but most of the time I just wanted to drop that class.…
