Why Vaping Is Bad

Vaping is becoming the new fad in high schools everywhere. Teens treat vaping as a way to pass time and relax, but the vaping epidemic is comparable to what the world went through with cigarettes. The cigarette epidemic started with people using cigarettes without knowing the side effects. Teens nowadays don’t know about the harmful effects that vape pens cause. People try to say that e-cigarettes aren’t as bad as they seem, but the article “Warning: Vaping Teens Becoming a New Generation of Nicotine Addicts” by USAToday.com says otherwise. As of right now, there are fewer restrictions and warnings on vape pens as there are on cigarettes; as a result, teens are getting their hands on products just as dangerous as cigarettes with ease. Vape pens come in all types of flavors; however, all of them have traces of nicotine. Juul, a type of vape pen, has refillable cartridges that can contain as much nicotine as a pack of cigarettes (“Warning: Vaping”). E-cigarettes can be just as bad or even worse than regular cigarettes, but advertisements do not market the pens that way. Instead, advertisers promote the idea that e-cigarettes are better than regular ones; however, that is not the case. Not only is nicotine found in e-liquid cartridges, but there are other harmful substances: carbonyl compounds, volatile organic compounds, and propylene glycol. The exact ingredients are unknown, yet there are cancer causing chemicals in some e-cigarettes (“E-Cigarettes and Lung Health”). The tiny cartridges of e-liquid is what holds these dangerous chemicals, so e-cigarettes still pose the threat of cancer even after removing tobacco smoke. While the tobacco smoke is gone, vape pens still emit substances that are harmful to others. Substances include formaldehyde, benzene, acetaldehyde, and tobacco-specific nitrosamines (“E-Cigarettes and Lung Health”). Many people think that e-cigarettes don’t share the same harmful effects of secondhand smoke like cigarettes, but they release numerous harmful chemicals. The promises that some companies make about eliminating secondhand effects seems to be …show more content…
E-cigarettes reduce the amount of smoke released when using them (“Pros and Cons of Vaping”). People are no longer able to put the blame of secondhand effects on the smoke. The absence of smoke is also more pleasurable to those around the person smoking. Another advantage is the loss of a putrid smell. Traditional cigarettes have an unmistakable smell which usually lingers around the smoker. Vape pens do not release any smells because the e-liquid is colorless and odorless (“Pros and Cons of Vaping”). Unless other flavors are being used, there is no smell that is associated with them, so you do not have to worry about disturbing other people. However, if an e-liquid cartridge has a certain flavor, then vape tends to smell like the flavor. One of the final benefits of vaping is the number of flavors. Regular cigarettes leave customers with one option. The vapor inhaled when vaping is more enjoyable and comes in a variety of flavors. There is vanilla, apple, cherry, and many more (“Pros and Cons of Vaping”). The amount of flavors is what attracts teens to vaping and rightfully so. Giving different vape flavors makes the product seem like a type of candy. Vape is an overall appealing product at first
