Mammals come in all shapes and sizes. Mammals are different from each other, but all have certain things in common. For example, they all breathe air, give live birth, and have hair at some point in their life. But what makes certain mammals different from one another. There are two specifically that we want to dive deeper into. The first being Wolves and the second being Orcas also known as the wolves of the sea. We will look into the differences and similarities of group dynamics and hunting techniques these wolves and wolves of the sea demonstrate. Group dynamics are essential in understanding how certain decisions are made in a group. Similarities in the group dynamics …show more content…
How exactly do these packs get there hunting techniques? In a computational simulation on wolf-pack hunting strategies (Muro, Escobedo, Spector & Coppinger 2011) a hypothesis that wolf-pack hunting strategies can be explained as a phenomena that does not rely on the presence of a hierarchical social structure, intentional behavior, or communication skills (Muro,2011).There is a hierarchy in the wolf pack with the Alphas but social cooperation between individuals suggest higher intelligence and strategic planning’s on hunts. In order to test their hypothesis researched used a computational …show more content…
Orcas give birth to only one calf and live for a long time while wolves have multiple pups litter and live for a shorter amount of time. The alpha of an orca pod is the oldest female. The oldest female has already learned the hunting techniques swam throughout the ocean for years and is able to teach the younger orcas in the pod the things she has learned over the years, Wolves have a much shorter life span and need to hunt with the pack before they are even a year old, so there is not much time for teaching how to hunt. Orcas may be Called Wolves of the sea but they are far from it. They display much more coordinated hunting techniques and communication between other orcas in their pod. While wolves have an innate behavior to chase prey =which is why you should not start running if you come into contact with on because they will innately chase you down. Orcas may hunt with multiple other orcas like wolves but being called the wolves of the sea down plays how smart and innovative these animals
