The Book of Genesis is a book concerning beginnings. Part of Genesis describes the creation of the world in order. God creates the universe first. Then He brings light and dark, the sky and seas, the land and plants. After that, the sun, moon and stars, the birds and the fish, animals and humanity are created. The purpose of God of having created humankind is found in Genesis 1:27 that says: “So God created humankind in his image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.” Here, humankind is being represented as the image of God. According to Genesis, man and woman are equal. None of them is more imaged to God. Before God, they are absolutely the same. However, interpretation for Genesis 1:27 may vary. Some translations

Women did also have an important role in history. Old Testament contains examples of women who took leadership in their religious and familiar lives. For instance, the story of biblical mothers such as Sarah or Rebecca shape the history of their people; while heroines and protectors such as Pharaoh’s daughter, without whom the infant Moses would surely have perished, and the beautiful Judith, whose violent act brought respite from war to the Israelites. These are a few examples of the many stories that God used as teachings for others. Through these women, many people were blessed in different ways. Sarah was a woman who did not believe she would become a mother. Her old age and barrenness were some of the aspects she thought would not allow her to become a mother. Nevertheless, God’s promise had already been given to Abraham and it came true. God allowed her to conceive a son whose name was Isaac. Behind this story, there is a similar one about Isaac’s wife, Rebekah. She also suffered barrenness. However, God’s promise is seen in the life of her that she conceives twins. Their names were Jacob and Esau. In addition, the story of According to the Scriptures, Pharaoh’s daughter is also a story of women who were heroines. This princess, whose name does not appear, rescues the life of the little baby Moses after having seen him in a basket along the bank of the Nile. Moses’ mom had sadly put him in that basket as Pharaoh had ordered to throw every Hebrew boy into the Nile. Fortunately, God uses the life of the princess to save this life which later becomes a great God’s servant. These are some brief examples about women who left an important teaching in our lives.
