Do you think it was unfair for the women in the 1930’s to not have jobs. Women did not have jobs in the 1930’s because of the Great Depression.There were fewer jobs and they would rather give the employment to men. When the stock markets crashed, it was known as the Great Crash. Many people bought stocks on margin. Many companies lied about their profits. Many wealthy people lost everything. Some people even committed suicide. Even millions of people that didn’t even own a stock lost their home, jobs, and even their farms. The Great Depression lasted from 1929 to 1939. “For the most part women worked long hours for low wages in 1930’s” (Working Women). Due to the low wages the families became poor and the parents could not support their families. Not only did they not get paid enough, “male teachers made $1,953 a year, while women only made $1,394” (Moran). Men were treated better than women in the work industry. So that they could take care of their families, the white ladies would have to take on the black women’s jobs. “Many African American women lost their positions as domestic servants to white women who entered the market during the Depression” (NWHM).
