World War I is known as the first modern war by many historians. The industrialization of war through weaponry, transportation, and media made the first World War the basis of what a war would be like today. First, weapons became more powerful and longer-lasting. Machine guns shot out a rapid fire of deadly bullets. Armed vehicles, such as tanks, allowed troops to storm through fences and other boundaries. Poison gas, causing many casualties, was introduced by the Germans and was a start to chemical warfare. Additionally, transportation enabled troops to attack from new, different angles and maneuver through the war front.
