    Hawaii Apology Analysis

The main point of the apology was the u.s government saying they are sorry for the overthrow back on January 17 1893. Also that they are sorry for forcing the queen out of power without a fair reason for taking over Hawaii. I think that the apology resolution was important the the Hawaiian nation because, after the overthrow hawaii was forced into the u.s.a without being able to run things the way the hawaiian people wanted. For example as soon as hawaii was annexed in the the u.s they came to hawaii and took hawaiian lands and used it for the u.s needs and it pretty much took over the hawaiian sugar plantation fields so many people lost jobs and it was hard being under the u.s rules now. Another example of why it was important to the hawaiian…

On 13th Feb 2008 prime minister delivered his speech and apologized on behalf of all australians and saying that we are sorry for what we had done. This was a well known symbolic strategy that has a major impact on the Indigenous peoples. The main message of the speech was to apologize to the indigenous for all the mistreatment that they caused in the past and the effect that it had on them and their families. This was a way to try and remove barriers and build a better relationship and bring reconciliation one step closing by realising their mistakes and sincerely apologizing for all the mistreatment caused. Although the Apology itself did not refer to offering practical compensation to members of the Stolen Generations, it had a significant…

Some main points in this “Apology Resolution” is, “the native hawaiian people lived in a highly organized, self sufficient, subsistent social system based on communal”, in this article is shows liliuokalani statement based on when she gave up her power. Yes i do believe that this was important to the Hawaiian Nation because still today hawaii is apart of the U.S,to me i think that the constitution is where is pulled hawaii down, especially because we lost our hawaiian kingdom, the only thing we have left is the stories we can only hear about the over throw on our hawaiian monarchy.…

The theme that I chose for this paper is family. This theme appears in the essays "Proofs" of Richard Rodriguez and in "The Apology: Letters from a Terrorist" of Laura Blumenfeld. We can clearly see the theme in the essay of "Proofs"in the following ways: The essay talks about how migration sometimes separate families, and how difficult it becomes for the migrant to be able to live in another country without his culture and with his family so far away from him. In the essay "The Apology" the theme could be seen reflected in how the parents and family members of the terrorist always keep supporting their son, and also it is shown in how Laura Blumenfeld wanted that her father was seen as another person and not only as an object.…

It gets stupidly hot in Danielsville, Louisiana, especially around summer. This would be fine I guess if we had something to do, to keep our mind off of the heat but there isn’t anything to do. Danielsville, Louisiana has three churches (Pentecostal), twice as many bars, one high school and no books stores or libraries. This means you’re either too drunk to read, or too Christian to read anything good. Big enough to have a mayor’s house, but not big enough to be on any map of any kind, it’s the kind of town where everyone knows your name and basically everything about you.…

The Socratic practice, as presented in The Apology through Socrates’s explanation of it and his way of implementing it, relies on its implementer being perceived as truthful and disinterested in wealth, while simultaneously questioning the perceived knowledge amongst individuals of authority. Socrates’s form of philosophical discussion forced the burden of the conversation upon his opponents though this questioning. In the Republic, Socrates provides an apt example of the Socratic practice as he argues against Thrasymachus. The first and foremost aspect of Socrates’s rhetoric is that he claims to speak only the truth. In the Apology, Socrates begins his speech by saying to his fellow Athenians that “From me you will hear the whole truth,…

In Apology by Plato, Translated by Robert Fagles, unmasked the distinction between the truth and appearance. As the play starts off, Socrates is being charged before the jury. At his trial, one of his prosecutor, Meletus, states that he has corrupted the youth (pp.28 line 24b). For his first vindication, Socrates reason that he is guiltless of his charges. Undermining Meletus creditability, Socrates illustrates two ways that the charge brought against him were proven to be false.…

My AP Literature teacher, Mr. Mercer, once asked my class a serious question: why do women apologize so much? A thoughtful pause followed while the class, females especially, pondered the answer. My teacher elaborated with a short anecdote about a female student from a previous class: Mr. Mercer was standing in front of the doorway before class, speaking with another student. The female student approached the doorway so Mr. Mercer and the student courteously moved out of the way. The female student nodded and uttered a quick “sorry” as she hustled past them.…

An Overdue Apology from the Nation An official Apology to Aboriginals and Torres Strait Islander had been postponed for 11 years after the inquiry into children removal report Bringing Them Home (1997) was released during the Howard Government (1996-2007). The report recommended for an apology as a first step to heal the wounds of victims because of human rights violations (Human Right and Equal Opportunity Commission 246). However, Prime Minister John Howard rejected to apologize for indigenous people on behalf of the nation and stressed that delivering a symbolic apology and letting Australians of this generation burden with the blame and a sense of national guilt would not facilitate successful reconciliation (Gunstone 80). Instead, he advocated…

“I’m sorry.” Two simple words that can be articulated to mean a number of different things. Two words that, unfortunately, we have been exposed to our entire lives. Two words that are perceived as a good thing, yet in all reality symbolize the acknowledgment of unacceptable acts. When these two words are strung together to create a sentence that will invariably be answered with a quick “It’s okay”, it is easy to assess what has just happened.…
