What are the types of Turbines?
Impulse Blades
Reaction Blades
Impulse-Reaction
Impulse Blade
Pressure drop occurs in stationary NGV's
Converging space between guide vanes cause gas to accelerate while reducing total pressure and temperature.
Gas is directed onto the turbine blades which experience an impulse force caused by impact of gas on blades.
Turbine is driven by the impulse of the gas flow only
Fixed NGV's are designed to alter gas direction without changing pressure.
Converging rotor blade passages experience a reaction force from expansion and acceleration of the gas.
Turbine is driven by impulse of the gas flow and it's reaction due to the acceleration through the converging blade passage
