Applied behavior analysis is a field that relies on research to support interventions that are chosen for clients that are served. The interventions that are controversial and raise concerns are those that are punishment procedures (DiGennaro Reed & Lovett, 2008). It is important to always combine reinforcement with punishment procedures in the event that it must be utilized and should be the least restrictive punishment procedure (Miltenberger, 2012). A variety of peer reviewed research…
was two. After talking to his parents I learned that he had demonstrated some signs of speech and language impediment. While this change alarmed his parents, everyone else thought he was craving for attention. However, over the next few months his behavior regressed. He started walking in circles, whirled the blades of a table fan, and watched it for hours until someone interrupted. His parents would call his name, but he would not respond to it. Here, I would like to mention that in a South…
Science Education Applied Behavioural Analysis (ABA) interventions (EIBI, PECS, and Video Modeling) may seem to be utilized for improving behavioral, social, and communication skills, but, they can also be used for academic development especially science. For instance, since autistic students are considered to be more visual learners than auditory, then PECS and video modeling can be used for their education (Dettmer, et.al. 2000). However, due to the limited amount of research conducted…
The purpose of this essay is to explain the behaviourism perspective for maladaptive behaviour and to assess the usefulness of therapies for maladaptive behaviour based on operant and classical conditioning theories. The behavioural approach hold the view that ‘It is probable that many phobias are true conditioned emotional reactions either of the direct or the transferred type’ (Watson Rayner 1920) This means the approach assumes that all behaviour is the result of a learning process and that…
After analyzing the data collected over the last two weeks it showed that the intervention being implemented was working. The intervention was effective in decreasing my behavior (consumption of high carbohydrate foods) by utilizing my healthier substitute of fruits, vegetables and salads. The first couple of days of the intervention I felt sluggish and tired. However, the daily exercise did contribute to the effectiveness of the intervention. Additionally, daily exercise gave me more energy and…
The first way that behavior perspective learning is incorporating in the classroom is through operant conditioning. Students who learn to behave a certain way based on their environment is called operant conditioning. Through my observations I saw how student’s behaviors are more operant rather than respondents. For example, the students in my classroom have learned when they are in the whole group environment they must raise their hands quietly when they are ready to talk. If the students don’t…
identify potential reinforcers, functions of behaviors, and strengths and challenges of learners’ skills. A skills assessment was conducted in SPE 569. Assessments of skills are necessary to identify areas of strength and needs, and develop effective teaching strategies to address the needs. This assignment reviewed two assessment tools, Assessment of Basic Language & Learning Skills (ABLLS-R) found on the partingtonbehavioranalysts website and Verbal Behavior Milestones Assessment…
ABAS-II The Adaptive Behavior Assessment System-Second Edition (ABAS-II) was used to provide information on Lena’s adaptive skills. This tool provides a measure of Lena’s ability to independently engage in and complete the tasks necessary for personal and social sufficiency. Lena’s skills in this area were compared to those of her same-age peers. The ABAS-II provides a General Adaptive Composite (GAC), which is derived from three domains: Conceptual, Social, and Practical. Scores are…
how four main learning theories are interrelated and drive a variety of approaches used within special education and, more specifically, effective teaching practices. A Venn diagram was used to produce the interrelationship of the concepts of the Applied Behavioral Analysis, the Cognitive Strategy Instruction, the Schema Theory, and the Social Cultural Theory. This Venn diagram is broken down to four sets having thirteen places in which to place the concepts and to demonstrate the student’s…
career I have chosen to look into is being a behavior analyst. The essential information about this career is they study all sorts of behaviors. They assess individuals with behavioral problems, study changes. This career focuses on behaviors that can be observed and measured. They do have some research in their job where they would conduct studies of measure specific influences, such as the environment, on behavior or look for new ways to solve behavior problems in specific audiences, whether…
