Additionally, to date, the incident is the largest oil spill disaster in US history and resulted in astronomical environmental fines and a damaged reputation. From the onset, BP was unwilling to phantom that an oil spill would happen, and if it did the company thought that it was prepared to deal with it. Thus, communications and bad management led to the BP oil spill, three were three companies at the heart of this disaster, BP, Transocean, and Halliburton. Transocean owned the oil rig, but it was leased by BP, and Halliburton was the cement contractor. Apparently, inadequate cementing at the base of the well allowed gas to rise and that resulted in the explosion. Thus, BP was under an extreme amount of pressure to get the well completed, therefore, corners were cut to facilitate this.
