General elections. To be specific, statistics from the campaign of March 2015, shows that the Conservative party was better attracting Ukip voters whereas, In addition the Conservative party were successful in attracting more Lib Dem voters that are formally left-wing than Labour (Green, J and Posser, C). Many Ukip voters previously voted for the Conservative party, one could then theorise, that many Ukip voters were inclined to switch to the Conservative party, as they not only share similar ideologies but also have a larger number of voters thus, making them more likely to win (Green, J and Posser, C). Insufficient leadership similarly has had an effect on votes for the Labour party. To be specific, before the 2010 General election, Gordon Brown was told to step down by his own cabinet due to a lack of leadership qualities (Kavanagh, D. and Cowley. P., (2010). Although there was a change in leader, in 2011 Ed Miliband illustrated difficulties with communication with the press. Instead of providing hope of a production economy, Miliband resorted to a speech about ‘anti-business’. One could then theorise that a lack of leadership skills lead to a fall in votes. The fact that the Labour party has had a recent history of unreliable leaders may contribute towards their loss in the General electrons.
