Horizon

ever so slightly down at the moment taking place in the image. We only see a small portion of the wooden construct. We see its edge and railing, which run diagonally from the bottom right corner of the painting to just above the center of the paintings left border. On the construct is a distraught, frail, figure. It has both of its hands on its head as it screams, eyes opened wide. This figure stands right by the railing of the construct, and is the center piece of the work. Further down the construct, two ominous black figures lurk. They stand near the left border of the painting, where the border meets the railing. A horizontal horizon line stretches across the painting, starting from the point where the ominous figures stand. On this horizon line, some body of land sits, surrounded by water. A dark body of water fills the negative space below the horizon line, and a red-orange sky swirls above. Texture: Any texture implied by the way the work is painted, is illusionary. With that being said, I imagine the the work would have some type of physical texture from the way the paint dried. This work is an oil painting. The different paints seem as if they swirl within each other, especially in the water and sky. Pattern: Pattern is more clear through the way the work was painted, as opposed to obvious repetitive patterns. The work loosely reminds me of Vincent Van Gogh's works.
