    in the big house by himself. Even more surprising, my dad actually agreed to it. So when my mom moved out of Jim’s house, my dad moved in. I didn’t even have to switch bedrooms. This was probably the weirdest year of my entire life. By itself, a girl living in a house with only men is more difficult. But even worse they were my dad and my ex-step-dad, two men who had my mom in common and next to nothing else. Jim was strict and borderline antisocial; he worked with computers all day and played video games all night. Occasionally he would make homemade beer in our house. My dad couldn’t take anything seriously if he tried and when he wasn’t working as a waiter at a greek restaurant, he was carving tiki heads or sending me links to the Jimmy Fallon Show on youtube. They butted heads a lot since they had completely different styles for “raising” me. On top of it all, I lived with my mom half of the time too, so I still had to go through getting used to another house. It would have been easy to slip into a dark place, but every time I explained this situation to someone and they’re first question for me was, “Wait, so is your dad… gay?” I just had to laugh. I would say no, it was more like two straight, grown men being roommates - but then also having a child. “So like… your life is Two and a Half Men.” Ha. Yeah, I guess…
