About 35 years ago, Dr. Kabat-Zinn an MIT trained scientist, was tasked with what most people viewed as a seemingly hopeless venture assigned to him by the local hospital. He was handed the cases the medical model simply couldn’t help. He gave these patients what many of them had been searching many years for relief. They finally were able to live their lives with a sense of contentment and well-being. Dr. Kabat-Zinn explains, “Since he founded his clinic in 1979, his clinic has helped over 20,000 people begin their journey into Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR)” (Kabat-Zinn 586).
