We get judged all the time, whether it be our race, religion, color, how we do in school, or the way we act.” Marta’s Story” is a great example of the way people underestimate us because of race, or our place in society. The main character Marta, an awfully small and thin Mexican teenager, undergoes several challenges while striving to get her hands on the Scholarship Jacket she deserves. Its an emotional ride while she sometimes wonders why life seems harder because of her color. Marta comes from a family with a great deal of money issues, Marta’s parents struggled so terribly with money they had to send Marta, along with her sister, to live with their grandparents. Although this may seem like a pretty hard life there are some positive things, for example: Marta's sister had won the Jacket in the previous year of her 8th grade class, therefore their family must have some intelligent roots. Marta is an incredibly hard working, persevering, ambitious young lady, that proves that through a few bumps in the road, such as racism, and discrimination, hard work and dedication always pay off in the long run.
