from this when he was about to destroy it. Except for that, he cares nothing for its power, and knows it is for the common good that it be destroyed. Bilbo on the other hand displays a different thought. He takes the ring from Gollum 's cave for himself. He does not tell anybody about it which shows a level of selfishness. Bilbo keeps and uses the ring for many years, until he decides to leave his home and travel. He then dumps the burden of the ring onto the shoulders of his nephew, Frodo. One of the other main characters in The Lord of the Rings is Aragorn. Aragorn is one of the kindest, most humble, down to earth characters. He is the heir to the throne of Gondor, however he does not want to claim the throne. Instead, he lives in Rivendell with the elves. He is so filled with love and compassion for others, although that may not be apparent because his character is so well-balanced. Aragorn is strong not only in body, but in mind. Through the entire journey to destroy the ring Aragorn is never tempted to take the ring. He even has a chance when Frodo offers it to him, but he declines. That act displays incredibly strong morals. Aragorn 's counterpart in The Hobbit would be Thorin. Thorin was the leader of the company that infiltrated the lost Kingdom under the Mountain. He, like Aragorn, is the heir to a throne. However, instead of being loving and kind, Thorin is greedy and coldhearted. "You can trust us to stick to you through thick and thin – to the bitter end. And…
