With accessibility to many activities, the park carries a welcoming vibe to new comers who are looking for a place to maybe take a walk or play with friends or family and hang in the sunlight. A closer observation of the park however will discover issues of location, privacy, technology, environmental concerns, and a disassociation between age and social groups of Sackville’s town members. The park does have its many appealing attributes but through the observations of a sunny Wednesday afternoon and the work of Jane Jacobs “The Uses of Sidewalks: Safety” in The Death and Life of Great American Cities, we can analyse the pros and cons and how the park may better itself in the future years. The walk up to the Johnstone Park is paved along with benches, oak trees, and decorative rocks, with chalk drawn by children and doggy bags by the map post, a beautiful functioning fountain, the welcoming shouts of students playing in basketball tournaments and children running through the splash pad, while parents sit in the gazebo and more students under trees or along the benches lining the pathway with picnic tables on the grass, most on their tablets or phones.
