    the women who comes out to meet her tells her how Adonis had been in a fight again and Mary Anne does not seem the least surprised that he is always fighting. One example that goes against masculinity is the fact that Adonis forgives his father because he realizes that he did not leave him on purpose. In the article “Creed” And The Fight For Black Masculinity In Hollywood” it states; “Even though he’s spent his life fighting in his father’s shadow (in more ways than on), Mary Anne’s efforts are what led Donnie toward discovering, and ultimately forgiving, a man who wasn’t around to defend himself”. This goes against masculinity because for hegemonic masculinity the only emotion you are supposed to express is anger or aggression. Sylvester Stallone who plays Rocky Balboa can be put under the category of hegemonic masculinity because he does not show emotion; he is the normative white male that does not show too much emotion. However, you see through the movie that his tough hegemonic side breaks down when he goes to the cemetery to visit his wife and friends graves and when he starts training Adonis. Another way is when he realizes he has cancer. He tries to keep that tough hegemonic personality but receiving news like that can make any “tough guy” break down. One message with using dominant gaze is that young men who do not have their fathers, we are supposed to see it as okay for them to be aggressive and get in trouble unless they have a wealthy person to take them in.…
