Open-angle glaucoma is the most common form. It is caused by having the drainage area remain open but the trabecular meshwork is somewhat blocked. The happens at such a slow rate that people lose their vision before they know it. Angle-closure or closed-angle glaucoma happens when the iris bulges forward to block the drainage area. This can happen gradually and is known as chronic angle-closure or it can happen suddenly which is known as acute angle-closure. Acute angle-closure glaucoma is a medical emergency and needs to be taken very seriously seeking immediate medical attention received. This form if not corrected as soon as possible will cause the eye to be blind. Normal-tension glaucoma is caused because of a sensitive optic nerve or having low blood flow to the optic nerve. One way that low blood flow can happen is by a buildup of fatty deposits in…

a transparent fluid similar to plasma, but containing low protein concentrations. It is secreted from the ciliary epithelium (a structure supporting the lens). It is located in the anterior and posterior chambers of the eye, the space between the lens and the cornea. It flows through the narrow cleft between the front of the lens and the back of the iris, to escape through the pupil into the anterior chamber, and then to drain out of the eye via the trabecular meshwork. ANATOMY OF AQUEUOS HUMOR…

However, some may have high eye pressure for years and never develop damage. Conversely, optic nerve damage may occur with normal pressure, known as normal-tension glaucoma. The mechanism of open-angle glaucoma is believed to be slow exit of aqueous humor through the trabecular meshwork while in closed-angle glaucoma the iris blocks the trabecular meshwork. Diagnosis is by a dilated eye exam. Often the optic nerve shows a feature known as cupping. If treated early it is possible to slow or stop…

There are two types of glaucoma; open ended and close ended glaucoma. Open ended glaucoma effects the trabecular meshwork and the schlemm canal found between the anterior chamber of the eye and the lens. In open ended glaucoma the Schlemm canal gets blocked with debris. In close-ended glaucoma the iris of the eye is blocked by the trabecular meshwork of the eye. Glaucoma leads to loss of peripheral vision. The buildup of debris leads to intraocular pressure, damaging the optic nerve. The…

    • Device Description The ViStent, is a single piece, L-shaped structure made up of titanium. It is provided in form of two models, VSL for the left eye and VSR for the right eye. It is dispensed pre-stacked with a single use tool (inserter) for introducing into the eye during a cataract surgery. Once inside the eye, the inserter is passed over the foremost chamber and embedded through the nasal trabecular meshwork into the Schlemm's canal. On appropriate implantation, the stent is bypassed…

above the age of 40. The gender-based difference is also evident, and men are more impacted than women. The ethnic inclination is also observed as whites are more prone to retinal detachment problem in comparison to African Americans (Schepens and Marden, 1961). The vitreous of eye played a significant role in the pathogenesis of retinal tearing and separation and considered to be a risk factor of retinal detachment. With the advancing age, it is more common because of contraction and molecular…

Angle-closure glaucoma is defined as an obstruction of the flow of aqueous humor in the eye due to the iris and trabecular meshwork being too close together which creates a closed angle where 270 degrees or more of the angle is occluded.1 Occlusion of the angle causes the intraocular pressure (IOP) to elevate. Optic nerve damage can occur if IOP is greater than 40 mmHg and permanent vision loss can occur if an individual's IOP is greater than 60 mmHg.2 The incidence of angle-closure glaucoma…

irreversible vision loss caused by damage to the optic nerve. The damage is caused by increase of intraocular pressure within the eye. The most important factor to preventing glaucoma and gradual vision loss is an early diagnosis. Therefore, regular check ups with an eye doctor is significant for assurance that an individual's vision care is maintained. As intraocular pressure causes the damage of the optic nerve, the pressure elevates over time due to a buildup of fluid that primarily…

optic nerve is the main organ engage and the main cause of glaucoma is a high pressure within the eye.In fact, The eye continuously produces the aqueous (a fluid in the eye), that must drain from the eye to maintain healthy eye pressure or when that liquid is not channel properly or encounter any resistance it is become an issue for the eye .A better way to illlustrate the problem is to think about the eye like a regular kitchen sink in wich the faucet always running .In the case of the eye…
