I remove my glasses to wipe the thick sweat from my brow. In this small court right now, it is just me, and my opponent. I stare him down as I bounce the green tennis ball on the ground in preparation for a serve. We have been in this match for more than an hour, and the current score is eight to six with him leading. Among the others, this match is probably the longest with a marathon of repeated deuces. My opponent is much more experience, yet I had preserved up to this point. In the beginning, I was the most out-of-shape in our team. Never had I lifted any weights; never had I ran a mile in a single run. This was the first sport that I ever participated in high school. The first week hell. It was conditioning week that was meant to prepare our bodies for the upcoming season. Composed of two hours of intense running and body building, I broke down multiple times; I vomited twice. I was told that if I emerge pass it, anything is possible. If it was not for that hellish training, I would not be still standing. My body aches…

High School Tennis Team The sun has just risen into the atmosphere where it creeps into the littlest openings of my worthless blinds. In my mind I feel a nuisance, a bothersome, due to the current deficiency of my restfulness. But I suppose that “everything in this life has a purpose” (Kübler-Ross). Motivation: I chose the topic of how tennis affects people. When I first heard about this I-Search project, I immediately knew that I wanted to choose a topic that was related to tennis. Since tennis is one of my favorite sports, and I’m very passionate about it, I want to learn everything about this topic. It took me twice as long as the average guy on the team to learn a new move or drill. I was an anti-prodigy. Because of this, matches were brutal. Most of the time I was pinned in the first minute. Match over. I didn’t survive the first round in a single match until the second half of the season. I didn’t win a match until even later. When I finally did, though, it was an indescribable…

Game, Set, Match! In a blink of an eye, my partner and I won our very first game in soft tennis. For the last point, I was able to score an ace. An ace is a winning serve that the server’s opponents never touches the ball with their racket. Therefore, the server earns a point, while the opponent loses it. This last point was crucial because it led us to victory. The excitement that I felt on that day is palpable. Ending the match with such a great impact is really memorable and a thrilling…

Most people believe tennis player were introverted/quiet people but some of the matches I went to involved some of the players being very vocal. One match in particular involves a player who would scream every time he hit a bad shot and he would always refer to himself in the third person. He would also argue with his coach every time that he went to talk to him. Another match that I went to involved a player who always screamed at himself also. He would throw his hat down when he made bad shots…

All it took for my friends to lure me into tennis was to suggest that I join the team with them sophomore year. At first it started out as something to do with my friends, but soon became a hobby and passion of mine as I learned more about the game. Tennis is a sport that involves two players hitting a ball back and forth across a net to each other using a racquet. It may sound simple, but decades have passed since the game was created and has given people time to turn the game into a highly…
