Alex Lin, a teen activist, was born in Rhode Island in 1994. Now at the age of 23, he works alongside his friends to stop e-waste and help refurbish old electronics. As a matter of fact, all the blue whales combined don’t weigh as much as 1 year's worth of E-waste. He has done many things to help this issue, and once stated how he thinks of what he does as “a lifestyle.” Alex Lin started after learning what e-waste was. Now he helps get rid of E-waste.
How it Started In 2004, 9-year-old Alex Lin came across an article in “The Wall Street Journal” talking about the dangers of e-waste. They have recycled so far 330,000 pounds of e-waste. They made 7 media centers around the world. On their first day, they recycled 20,000 to 30,000 pounds of e-waste to be recycled. Now he recycles 2,500 pounds of E-waste. Soon they switched to refurbishing computers because it was 7 times more effective. They refurbished 300 computers for their community. Alex always finds time to help his cause, and once had a ban passed on e-waste. Granted, it only affected Rhode Island, but other states also began to pass bans on e-waste. Not too long ago, Alex Lin received the Brower Youth Award for his actions against e-waste.
