Women have been mistreated by gender equality throughout the world. Knijik and Horton states, “The participation of women in sport has long been a target of cotestalation in the mid 20th century women were still viewed in many cultures, including Brazil, as being too fragile to take part in vigorous sport which posed a perceived threat to both their femminity and their maternal viability” (Knijik and Horton). Women in Brazil are being judged not by their ability to play sports but the appearance of their body. Women needed to be beautiful to play football in Brazil in order to attract viewers. If women keep being treated like a show, women sports will cease to exist and turn into a circus based merely on appearance. The sports world also needs to start recognizing the talent women have and not just the appearance of them. In most of the sports women play the uniforms reveal much more skin than in male sports. Women’s talents are often over looked more than their natural talents to play specific sports. Another reason women have a hard time playing male dominated sports is because people feel the women will be a distraction to the men. Women are often considered that they must look beautiful in order to play certain sports. Schools even with the passing of Title IX have found ways to sneak around the rules and still have gender inequality. Many females who try to participate in male dominate sports are often bullied and treated badly. Along with men who try to participate in female dominate sports.
