The President, also know as the Commander-in-Chief of the armed forces, holds the power of the executive branch. She/he is responsible for implementing and enforcing laws written by the Congress. The Executive branch also has a series of checks and balances that are used on the other two branches. One way the Executive branch checks on the Legislative branch is that the President has the power to veto laws passed by the Congress. They also can propose laws to the Congress. The Executive branch also submits the Federal Budget to the House. They also elect federal officials, who carry out and enforce the laws. The Executive branch also has checks on the judicial branch. Some of the duties are specified in the Constitution, but most of them have been created over time. The president serves seven main roles. The first role of the president is the Chief of State. She/he serves as a living symbol of the United States as the Chief of State. The president also serves as the Chief Diplomat, where she/he decides what American diplomats and ambassadors say to other foreign governments.
