Both of these compositions differ from our previous listenings. Mozart’s music was much more predictable. This music of the Romantic period is much more unpredictable at times. I also feel that there is much more depth to these works of Beethoven and Mendelssohn. The works are much more extreme in many ways. The harmonic progressions are more advanced and the explicit use of dynamics is unlike what would have been seen in Mozart’s time.

I find the sound of both of these compositions to be very similar. Although the Overture is much more flowing than the symphony, they still have similar qualities.
