Description
Methamphetamine comes under category of amphetamine type stimulants. Methamphetamine is an Amphetamine Anorectic and Central Nervous System Stimulant. Other than clinical usage as an oral form or Intravenous form, methamphetamine has been highly abused as street drugs by smoking, inhaling and sniffing to attain ecstasy.

Alkalinity or basicity of urine effects elimination of Drug from systemic circulation and increases methamphetamine’s half life. Concomitant use with antacids, sodiumbicarbonate, or acetazolamide enhances reabsorption of Methamphetamine and prolongs duration of action.(book). Methamphetamine use with ascorbic acid enhances its excretion and shortens duration of action.(book). Other Central nervous system Stimulants like Nicotine or caffeine produce additive effect. [1][2]
Toxicity
Desoxyn had life threatening effects if used during or within 14 days following MAO inhibitors may cause hypertensive crisis. Its use with antihypertensive may antagonize their effects.[1][2]
Moreover it is contraindicated in patients with glaucoma, advanced arteriosclerosis, symptomatic cardiovascular disease (CVD), hypertension, arrhythmias, hyperthyroidism, agitated states, known hypersensitivity or idiosyncrasy to sympathomimetic amines, and history of drug abuse May alter insulin requirements. It is contraindicated in pregnancy and lactation because it crosses placenta and found in breast milk as well. Methamphetamine also slow a child’s growth and can induce abortion. Long term use induces neurotoxicity, associated with prolonged psychiatric symptoms, cognitive impairment and an increased risk of developing Parkinson’s disease.
