Even in our nursing classes we learn the background and cultural beliefs of other nursing students and cultures with large populations in the US. It’s is important to understand the basic beliefs of most cultures that way we are prepared to treat those types of patients.
Samantha: the one place I observe cultural awareness all the time is at my job: Green Chimneys. It’s a residential child’s facility and we have to accommodate our nursing care and dining hall services based around the ethnicity, cultural, and religious beliefs of the children.
The impact of providing culturally competent nursing care to others is approaching the care of the patient holistically. We are administering care based on the patient and their cultural beliefs and values. This ensures the patient a healing environment in which they are more aware and comfortable.
