PRE-LAB
Please answer the following questions using the lab’s introduction and methods. Turn in your answers BEFORE lab begins; they will be late once class starts. Your answer to each question should be 1-3 sentences. Be sure to cite your sources if necessary and follow the Writing Assignment Guidelines. All questions should be entirely your own work. Please do not forget to sign the Honor Code.
1) How does this lab relate to sustainability? (3 points)
This lab relates to sustainability since it explores the topic of electricity, and ways to generate it without the use of exhaustible resources.
2) How does this lab relate to your personal goals? (3 points)
This relates to my personal …show more content…
The other objective is to figure how many coils of copper wire are in the unknown.
4) What are AC and DC electrical energies? (3 points)
DC electrical energy is direct current energy. So if the electrons’ movement is constant, it is DC electrical energy. AC is alternating current energy, so if the direction of the electron movement is inverted, it is AC electrical energy.
5) Currently, how are they generated in the U.S.? (3 points)
Currently, US is producing electricity through: coal (39%), natural gas (27%), nuclear (19%), hydropower (7%), other (8%) (EIA).
6) In your own words, describe the experimental set-up. (5 points)
The experimental set up involves two set ups. First, to figure if electricity can be generated with a copper wire and magnet, the set-up is very basic. You must take the control group, the wire, and test is to see if there is any electricity. Then you must add the independent variable, the magnet, and measure with the multi-meter to note if there is any electron movement. With the second experiment, it is to test how many copper coils are in the unknown, and the relationship of the movement of the magnet and the rod. The set up involves a cardboard spacer, copper wire, and two strong
