Both factors contribute to the development and enhances aggression. The exposure of violence yields many short- term and long-term effects. Short-term mechanisms include: an increase in physiological arousal, enhancement of negative mood states, and a incisive activation of aggression- related information (Huesmann, 1988; Wood, Wong & Chachere, 1991). Long -term effects is that it predicts aggressive behavior for both males and females in adulthood, which means they are able to model the aggressive acts. Children that are consistently exposed to aggressive behavior are more likely to engage in the behavior themselves and will respond to frustrating situations with aggression (Huesmann, 1988). Huesmann and his colleagues conducted a study in 1977. The study included 557 children from five different countries (ages 6-10). Researchers gathered information pertaining to childhood TV- violence viewing, identification with aggressive TV characters, aggressive behavior, and parents’ socioeconomic status (measured by educational level), parenting practices, and what parents watched on TV (Huesmann, Moise- Titus, Podolski & Eron, 2003). The results showed that children who watched violence on television for many hours while in elementary frequently were higher in aggression when they became teenagers. Different types of aggression exists, showing that the behavior occurs through many forms. There is an abundant amount of explanations that pertain to the causes of aggressive behavior. However, the factors vary because there are so many contributions, such as aggressive tendencies deriving from individual factors, impact to exposure of violence, parental practices, and then to the various perspectives that attempt to do the same. Deciding whether aggression is learned or inherited is very intricate. Why do some people show patterns of aggressiveness and some show none at all? Aside from the Psychoanalytic and Social Cognitive perspectives that provide insight of how internal forces, drives and observing aggressive behavior leads to an individual having these tendencies, other personality theories provide important points as well. As for example the biological perspective, it bestows the idea that people were born with aggressive tendencies and that the person’s disposition is usually depicted from the environment they lived in. Psychoanalytic and Social Cognitive perspective helps us understand how aggression comes to be, but through the use of other theories it can further research in knowing where aggression truly stems from. Nevertheless, personality theories provide insight behind the reasons of why we are the way we are, however, the origins of personality is still a
