There are two parts of encoding, automatic processing and effortful processing. Let’s talk about automatic processing. Automatic processing processes the large amounts of info about space, time, frequency and even well-learned information. These four things are the big parts of automatic processing. Space visualizes your location and what is going on around you. Time is when you note your day’s events. You can even use it if you lost something and you retrace back your day’s events of what you did. Frequency is when you …show more content…
If I want to study for AP Psych quizzes and tests I have to give my full attention and repetition to study for them. My techniques to use encoding of effortful processing is definitely not to study or process my information I’m learning before I go to sleep because that’s basically having an encoding failure. I will read each section of textbook everyday and test myself using the Spacing effect so I don 't cram. I would also use index cards to write my terms and people to know and I can shuffle them. So there is no primacy effect or recency effect. Mnemonic devices make it easier for a better memory such as the Peg words system, method of loci, chunking and mnemonics. I would also use the Peg Words system, because it would for my effortful processing. I would be associating known words with new words or …show more content…
The memory process is a long one where we first record our information it is retained in our sensory memory before moving to our short term memory or working memory and then brain debates if it is worth it to be moved to long term memory or let it go. When we have sensory memory it is very fleeting either with echoic or iconic memory. Our short term memory only works if the working memory meaningfully encodes or rehearses information. Also, short term memory is limited in capacity and duration and we only remember seven bits of information such as the Magical Number Seven, plus or minus two. Short term memory can only help me remember four information chunks of what I am reading for AP Psych. That’s why I’m going to do my best to make sure the information I retain for AP Psych goes to my long-term
