What is hyperhidrosis?
Hyperhidrosis or excessive sweating is a common disease that can cause a lot of stress and unhappiness. It is estimated that up to 3% of the population in the UK suffer from armpit (armpit sweating) or soles of the feet and excessive sweat (palladium hyperhidrosis). Treatment of excessive sweating methods are generally as follows:
Non-prescription antiperspirants - usually try first, because they are readily available. Antiperspirants containing aluminum chloride may be more effective when other antiperspirants fail
Prescription strength antiperspirant - containing aluminum chloride
Iontophoresis - the process of passing current through the water to the skin
Oral drugs - called anticholinergic drugs, can reduce sweating
Botulinum toxin (botulinum toxin) - for the treatment of axillary (armpit), hands, feet or facial sweating
Surgery - such as endoscopic thoracic sympathectomy
