Jargon is a language particular to a specific profession, work group, or culture and not meant to be understood by outsiders. A good example of Jargon is displayed in the television show called Chicago PD. Chicago PD is a show that portrays what a police officer does and how they fight crime daily. Police officers have special codes that mean different things. In Chicago PD we can see them radio to each other using these jargons to communicate when on scene so new reports, bystanders, and victims do not understand what is going on. Active listening can be defined as listening with all available sense and paraphrasing what is heard both mentally and verbally. Whereas paraphrasing is defined as restating another person message by rephrasing the content or intent of the message. Paraphrasing gives the original speaker the credited but allows you to use it as well. Chicago Fire and Chicago PD use both active listening and paraphrasing. For example, when running calls on both shows, the fireman and police officers have to have active listening skills so they are able to help in a timely manner and caught anyone who has caused harm or destruction to others.
