ELL’s will be encouraged to write words that they feel are important to remember. New vocabulary words, interesting words, and academic words will be recorded in this section of journals. ELL’s can include word pictures to ensure they have an accurate understanding of their vocabulary word meaning.
Free writing is an effective instructional strategy that will improve ELL’s vocabulary and writing ability. Journal writing that allow students to write freely is an instructional strategy I would use to support all my students, but specifically for my ELL’s (Scullin, & Baron, 2013).
While reflecting upon this assignment, I can visually see myself implementing learning strategies mention in both journal articles. I would ensure all my students have a positive learning environment that supports their individual learning needs to the best of my ability. The instructional strategies for ELL’s in both articles would benefit both ELL’s and their peers.
