Growing up Mexican/Latino, I have seen that culture enforces the idea that men should be the ones leading, while women are the ones who take orders. I find it intriguing that men are seen as the dominant ones, and I never agreed with that. Growing up, I saw my parents and the way they interacted, and I saw a bit of my family in Santiago’s book, and the sources I have used I have also seen in my own family.
