The first type of nonverbal communication addressed in the text is “voice”. This type doesn’t really have so much to do with the words you speak, so much as it does the emotion in the way you are speaking them. An important aspect of voice is paralanguage, which describes a wide range of vocal characteristics, each of which helps express an attitude, such as pitch, resonance, range, tempo, articulation, disfluencies, rhythm, pauses, and volume (Adler & Elmhorst, p. 93).
