Details: The author of this book is Fred Bowen. Fred Bowen was born in Marblehead, Massachusetts, a seaside town north of Boston. His wife was a reporter on a local paper, she suggested that I try writing movie reviews. The editor of the movie liked the idea and he had a lot of fun doing it. He was getting paid to watch movies! He said “it was so cool to see my name in the newspaper. I guess that's when I got the writing bug.” Now, why did he start writing books for kids? When his son was little, he read sports books aloud to him and he thought, "Hey, I can write books like this!” And this is basically how his writing career took off. The main setting was at the basketball court where Greta taught Chris how to shoot better and where Mimi taught him how to play defense. The second setting is at Greta’s house. Lots happen at her house they go over plays and figure out what to do next. The third setting is at school where everything really comes together and takes place.
The Characters: Chris is a very passionate player who wants to get better. He has an urge building up in his body ready to use it against his opponents but he just needs to find it. Greta is a great teacher and a great friend. She helps Chris build confidence and become a better basketball player. And last but not least Mimi. Mimi is the mom behind the scenes. She puts everything together and gets Chris the playing times he deserves.
Recommendation: I recommend this book to 8 through 12 years olds. The reason I chose it is because I wanted something easy to read and have fun doing it. Even though it wasn't my reading level I still enjoyed the small
