The word pentagram is from the Greek word pentagrammon from around 1825 to 1835. But was first used in Mesopotamia in 3500BC. To me it is a representation of the four elements and Spirit and the circle represents the Wheels of the Years. I also use it to invoke and banish the elements. There are a few other cultures that use this the Christians representing the Five Wounds of Christ. The Jewish is symbolizes the archetypal forces.
