Research Portfolio Sexual Dysfunction Disorder Sexual Dysfunction Disorder is identified when an individual is unable to enjoy sexual activity causing them to restrain from sexual relations. It can be a physical or emotional problem that is associated with sex. This is experienced by both men and women of all ages however, the chances of have this disorder increases with age. Sexual dysfunction is categorized in one of the four following ways: desire, arousal, orgasm, and pain disorders. The lack of interest to pursue sexual relations is due to desire disorders. Pain disorders come from having pain during intercourse that makes it no longer enjoyable for the partner. Men who have sexual dysfunction disorders often find themselves having difficulties to achieve or maintain an erection that is suitable for intercourse this is called erectile dysfunction. Retarded ejaculation is also prevalent in males which is having an absence or delay of ejaculation despite an on going sexual stimulation. Lastly, premature ejaculation; this is when men have no control of the timing of their ejaculation. For women, failure to achieve orgasms, insufficient vaginal lubrication before and during intercourse, and the inability to relax vaginal muscles enough to allow painless intercourse are the results of sexual disorders. As much as men and women can experience sexual dysfunction differently, what makes their experience the same is the lack of interest or desire for sex, inability to become aroused, and painful intercourse. Endocrine Disease is one of many physical causes that could be the reason why a person is experiencing this condition. The endocrine system is what produces the hormones in our bodies which regulate our metabolism, sexual function, reproduction, and mood. An example of an endocrine disease that can cause difficulty for a person to maintain erection or achieve ejaculation is diabetes. Diabetes affects the body’s ability to utilize the hormone insulin. A side effect that affects penis sensations is the nerve damage caused by diabetes.
