Qualities of a good Conductor
1. He/should basically read music. You cannot get all through by just listening into it, but by knowing how to read, you can get all the details of the elements of music.
2. He should at least play the keyboard. The keyboard is the basic instrument should a good conductor possess because this would apparently decipher the voice parts especially when learning new and unfamiliar songs.
3. He should possess the power of motivating. What it is like when a leader doesn’t know how to motivate. Motivation is like an engine that when you ignite it works and runs. Likewise, singers do. There are times that singers are discouraged and didn’t meet their individual needs and expectations, tendency it creates uneasiness, and disharmony among the group. He should know the basic conducting patterns. It is important that a conductor knows the stroke of a specific patterns. The downs stroke usually the strong beat and the upstroke is the weak beat. Tempo in a piece usually changes from time to time. So the conductor should be flexible and keen enough to feel the changes. .However, there are some pieces that tempos are permanent all throughout the musical piece. Here are some basic conducting patterns that you could refer and study see figure D.1. Notice on figure D.2. It illustrated how and classified the duple meter, quadruple meter, and triple meter and their corresponding conducting patterns.
7. He should know the basic conducting techniques. Acquiring such basic conducting techniques could probably if not great but should at least helps you to be the best conductor at all times. Who knows? It depends on you. Let’s get started! a. Position. a1. The feet should approximately shoulder width apart and even with each other. Your weight should be slightly forward. a2. Chest. It should comfortably high that doesn’t affect when your hands are raised. a3. Alignment. The upper torso should be straight. Avoid protruding chin and a protruding posterior. Your legs should be slightly bent, or straight but not rigid. a4. Arms. The arms Should at least in your comfortable position so as not to create uneasiness. a5. Hands. The hand movement depends on the type of mood and articulations used. Fingers are slightly curved.
