Robotic devices that are being placed in operation rooms is not a necessity, surgeons are doing what needs to be done fine without a robotic device such as the da Vinci. A study has shown that “there is no significant difference between robotic and open surgery, the length of hospitalization was largely the same” (Keisler). The main goal of robotic surgery to improve precision and to prevent blood loss. With the study showing no significant difference, robotic surgery ultimately is useless as of now. Many surgeons are happy with no robot assistance in the operation room, as they have been taught how to perform certain surgeries in certain ways for many years, with new technology coming in, surgeons don’t have much knowledge on it. Although surgeons are required to take a course before being able to use any robot device, the course only takes one to two years which is not enough time for a surgeon it fully learn about robotic surgery. Surgeons are being rushed to learn about it and aren’t learning it in-depth. For patient safety, the surgeon must feel comfortable with using the device and many aren’t. The media portrays that robotic surgery is the way to go, “aggressive direct-to-consumer marketing of the latest medical technologies may mislead the public into believing that they are the best choice” ( “Robotic surgery linked to 144 deaths in the US”). The purpose of surgery is to correct any problem within the body and to have an untroubled patient. The technology of the da Vinci and other systems are being thrown in front of people’s eyes but no one is evaluating them
